ACA gives time to local Care Home Christmas Fair
Fern Brook Lodge is a recently refurbished Care South home for residential and dementia care in Gillingham, North Dorset. Residents have great opportunities to socialise with one another and other members of the local elderly community during social events held at The Brook, their in-house community space.
The Lodge welcomes families and friends to share food, fun and friendship and the bright and airy room forms a hub for the wider Gillingham community, hosting activities such as coffee mornings and social clubs, which help to improve physical and mental wellbeing of their residents.
Richard Kishere, an ACA for HTG-UK Dorset, often transports residents of the home to their hospital appointments and has developed a wonderful relationship with them and the staff of the home.
In early December, the Care Home were hosting their Christmas Fair, so volunteers were needed to support.
Richard spent the day at the Home helping their Christmas Fair run and supported the staff by running the raffle.
The Care Home allows HTG to park two of the Dorset Ambulances in their car park, which supports the journeys for their residents and local patients.
As a ‘Thank you’, HTG provided a hamper of luxury foods and a couple of bottles of wine, for the Christmas Fair, which Richard presented to the Team.
Paul Mockett, Head of Operations said:
“We appreciate the facility that Fern Brook Lodge Care Home provides us, by allowing two vehicles to be parked in the car park.
It enables us to support the journeys and supply the service required in one of the furthest points of the Dorset area.”
Richard thanked HTG for the donation on behalf of the Care Home:
“To say that they were over the moon, is most definitely, an understatement.
The event was a huge success.”
He continued: “I felt very proud wearing my uniform during the day.
So many people wanted to talk to me about what we do, and the responses were all positive.
I volunteered to run the Raffle for them and nearly ran out of tickets!”
“Thank you so much for your support of our local community!”
What a wonderful start to the festivities!
